On the 14th of September our TY group headed off to Knock very early in the morning. They say it was a coincidence that it was the day after the junior cert. results were out but I believe otherwise.. We were going to a Young Saint Vincent de Paul Conference. I don't understand why a bunch of very tired teenagers were sent there but we went anyways. I was led to believe that we would we looking at the churches of Knock and all about it but no. It had literally nothing to do with Knock because it was just the VENUE! You could say I was a bit annoyed about that.
To make matters worse we were separated into different groups and we were late of course so PCS looked quite unprofessional. We basically listened to people talk all day and then did this group discussion so they could get feedback. FR. Peter Mc Verry was one of the speakers and he talked about homelessness. John Lonergan and Joanne O'Riordan also spoke and i preferred their speeches as they were far more interesting.
Joanne's speech was really inspirational and she added life to the crowd. I was glad i got to meet her and she was probably the only reason the trip was worth while.
Paddy, who was organising the whole thing was very nice and he came to our school recently to follow up on the talk. I found when Paddy came we were more interested as we weren't as tired and we weren't in a new place. However that still does not justify the fact that we were dragged off to Knock very early in the morning just to listen to people talk about things i have very little interest in.
