I don't know how many times I've sat down to write about this and failed. To be fair I hated the thought of Delphi since I found out about it considering I'm not an out door person. I would actually describe myself as quite precious, so to say I was dreading this trip is an understatement. On the 20th of September, the whole TY group arrived to school with so many bags you'd think we were leaving forever, I myself being the biggest culprit as I decided to pack enough to fill two large suitcases and a rucksack. Skipping to when we got to Delphi, the torture began the minute i stepped off the bus. We were unaware of Delphi Resort currently being a work site so we had to walk to the buildings. That meant I had to bring all my luggage with me down a rocky road just to get to the place itself! When I had finally made it, they told us our room numbers and we got to check them out. I felt like I was in a prison cell never mind a resort.
We were split into groups and mine were heading out surfing. I was dreading it. I had to wear a wet suit that someone had worn before me and it was still soaking wet. Talk about disgusting. I got on the bus and got to stare out at the many fields surrounding us until we arived at the beach. I changed into the wet suit and I was absolutely freezing. A guy called Louis taught us the basics and then we headed out into the water. I has to stop multiple times because the board was so heavy and my feet were too cold. But I finally braved it and got waist deep in it. I didn't intend on actually surfing until a big wave came and knocked me over so I was fully wet which helped warm me up oddly enough.. I made several attempts and I wasn't any good but I really enjoyed it. I was shocked that I had so much but now i'd love to go surfing again. That night we participated in unusual activities and got our dinner which I was really looking forward to. Sadly the dinner was horrible and didn't taste of anything.
The next day we were woken up bright and early for our 27km hike up a mountain for our gaisce award. I was regretting signing up for it as I am unfit and hate outdoors, basically they combined two things I hate into one, so I had a wonderful time. After the bus journey which seemed to be filled with suspense we got a proper look at what we would be climbing and I thought at the time that it wasn't that bad. I was wrong. We had only reached the fifth kilometer and I was already out of breath. I struggled on and the hills got steeper and steeper. I thought my calves were going to burn off of me. One of the hardest parts was getting up at the top of the mountain as I am scared of heights. While I ate my lunch I couldn't stop shaking with fear. Unfortunately all good things have to come to an end and so we were off again except this time we were going down the mountain. This took longer than expected and I can't explain how happy I was when I saw the bus there waiting for us. That night we had a campfire and sang songs. It was very cliche but it was fun enough.
The day I thought that wouldn't come quick enough finally arrived, it was our last day. We didn't get off that easy though as we had another activity to complete. This time it was High Ropes. Considering my fear of heights was very much confirmed after our hike I was not excited to participate in this activity. Much to my dismay I made an effort and climbed the pole and made it half way across before it got too scary and jumped off.
Throughout the 3 days I hated the majority of it. Delphi did not change me as a person and it wasn't that beneficial to me. However I'm glad I got to do everything as I would never do it otherwise.
